LANGUAGE CLUB

The Language club of SSMIET was started with an aim to provide training and opportunities to students to hone their language and soft skills. There is a strong link between language skills and employability. Students with a good command over English stand a better chance of getting through the interview process. English language, albeit not a main paper in engineering, has a great role to play in the lives of students, be it their understanding of the text and scoring good grades in the examinations. SSMIET has a good number of first generation learners who have higher aspirations to achieve and succeed in engineering but are bogged down by their lack of knowledge in English. Language club provides an opportunity for all students to learn and develop their communication skills and provides adequate resources and avenues to hone their productive skills. The Language lab provides them with a wide variety of learning options where students can learn with the help of computers with minimum teacher intervention.

The summum bonum of our language club is to help students gain good command over English language ,eschew their consciousness towards mistakes and to overcome the fear of public speaking by providing them with inputs on the areas like managing fear, body language, phonetics  and  art of speaking.

The classes are offered at three levels based on the competence and performance of the students and their needs:

These divisions are just parameters which could help us provide the students with materials and activities that will cater to their needs and level of understanding. This will foster peer interaction and confidence among the learners who share similar acquaintance with English language   thereby eschewing a sense of inferiority or embarrassment.

The seeds to bring out a Language Club was sown in the year 2013 but then it was conducted as a part of Placement Activity .The language Club started to function as an individual club in the month of August 2016 with a few final year students who were willing to participate in the discussions and activities like group discussions, topic presentations post college hours between 4:30pm to 6:00 pm. In 2017, the strength slowly started to increase and now the club meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays on all weeks except during internal tests.
